Ra: Egyptian sun god. Also known as Re, Ra hatched from a cosmic egg (or a flower) that appeared on the surface of the waterworld. He has the head of a hawk, the body of a human, and presides over the sun disk and obelisk. Egyptians worshipped Ra as a local deity until his popularity became widespead. The temple at Heliopolis was at first devoted to Ra. Eventually the kings of Egypt diluted his role as creator, fused his story with that of other deities and heroes, and expanded on a polytheistic concept. Ra! Ra! Ra!
